Grilled asparagus with a rich balsamic glaze is a quick and flavorful side dish that’s both healthy and satisfying. Perfect for busy weeknights or outdoor dinners, this smoky, tangy veggie pairs effortlessly with a variety of mains or stands alone as a light meal.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh asparagus (medium stalks), trimmed

  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

  • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

  • 1 garlic clove, minced (or ½ teaspoon garlic powder)

  • Salt and pepper to taste (about ½ teaspoon each)

  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

  • Optional: lemon wedges or a protein main for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat grill to medium-high (around 400°F) or heat a grill pan.

  • Rinse and trim the asparagus by snapping off the woody ends. Pat dry with a towel.

  • Toss asparagus in a bowl with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.

  • In a small saucepan, simmer balsamic vinegar (and honey if using) over medium heat for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened into a glaze. Remove from heat.

  • Place asparagus on the grill perpendicular to grates or thread onto skewers. Grill for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway, until tender with char marks.

  • Transfer to a serving dish. Drizzle with balsamic glaze, sprinkle with Parmesan and parsley. Serve hot with optional lemon wedges or your choice of protein.

Notes

  • Substitute Parmesan with a vegan alternative for dairy-free option.

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze.

  • Grill baskets can help prevent smaller spears from falling through.
