  • 1 pound asparagus, woody ends removed

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • Kosher salt, to taste

  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste

  • Zest of 1 lemon

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • 3 tablespoons shredded parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Wash the asparagus and trim the woody ends. Pat dry thoroughly.

  • Place asparagus in a bowl or on a sheet pan. Drizzle with olive oil and season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.

  • Preheat the grill to high heat (gas or charcoal).

  • Arrange the asparagus spears on the grill perpendicular to the grates to avoid slipping through.

  • Grill for 3–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until slightly charred but still crisp and bright green.

  • Remove from grill. Immediately drizzle with lemon juice and sprinkle with lemon zest.

  • Top with shredded parmesan cheese and serve warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, sprinkle with crushed red pepper flakes before grilling.

  • Can be made on a grill pan or roasted in the oven if needed.

  • Serve warm, at room temperature, or chilled.
