Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, lemon zest, and salt. Add melted butter and yeast mixture; stir until combined into a soft dough.
- Knead and rise: Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Shape the rolls: Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread lemon juice over it, sprinkle with sugar if desired, and roll tightly.
- Bake: Cut into equal portions and place in a greased baking dish. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.
